Cooling water pre-filtration

Activated Filter Media

To make water streams such as surface water, rainwater and wastewater suitable for use in cooling water systems, fine suspended solids smaller than one micron must first be removed. For this step, we use Activated Filter Media (AFM). AFM is an ecological filter material made from recycled glass, with a service life of more than twenty years. It provides a stable and reliable foundation for further water treatment and ensures consistent water quality.By applying AFM intelligently, we significantly reduce the load on downstream processes such as ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. This makes the entire system more efficient and reduces maintenance requirements. In this way, we enable the effective use of alternative water sources, reduce the demand for drinking water and lower the overall water footprint of your cooling water process, without compromising operational reliability.

ACTIVATED FILTER MEDIA

Membrane Prefiltration

This treatment step removes salts and other dissolved substances from the water to a very high degree, including organic compounds, colourants and minerals. By doing so, it helps control corrosion, pH levels and mineral scaling in concentrated cooling water. To achieve this, we deploy a combination of technologies such as ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. These processes work together to deliver consistent and well controlled water quality, allowing installations to run more smoothly and with a lower risk of fouling or unexpected disruptions. At the same time, this step opens the door to further reuse of water streams, reduces blowdown and limits overall water intake. Integrated with the other Pathema process stages, reverse osmosis provides a solid foundation for circular water treatment, delivering lower consumption, reduced maintenance and a high level of operational reliability.

MEMBRANE PRE-FILTRATION

Ultra Filtration

Ultrafiltration offers a dependable way to remove fine contaminants from water. Using membrane technology, suspended solids, sludge, turbidity, bacteria and other microscopic particles are effectively separated from the water stream. The result is clear, stable water that directly contributes to more consistent water quality within your process or installation. At Pathema, ultrafiltration is applied as a robust building block within chem-free and circular water treatment concepts. It is commonly used as a pre treatment step for reverse osmosis or as a protective barrier for sensitive components such as pumps, membranes and sensors.By preventing fouling and blockages, ultrafiltration reduces maintenance effort and enhances the overall reliability of the water system.

Dissolved Air Flotation

Dissolved Air Flotation, DAF, is an effective method for removing fine contaminants from water, particularly when fats, oils, suspended solids or biological material are present. In a DAF system, microscopic air bubbles are introduced into the water and attach themselves to the contaminants. This causes the particles to float to the surface, where they are removed as a concentrated sludge layer. The result is clarified water with a significantly lower load on downstream treatment steps. At Pathema, DAF is applied as a robust pre treatment step within circular and chem free water treatment solutions, for example upstream of filtration, ultrafiltration or reverse osmosis.By removing contaminants at an early stage, DAF helps prevent fouling, reduces maintenance requirements and improves the overall reliability of the installation. It is a smart choice for customers looking to combine stable water quality with less downtime and more efficient water use.
